Ecoal - What is it? And How is it Made?

There are many ways to heat your home – from gas-powered central heating to wood-burning stoves. In recent years and in particular since the energy crisis, people have been exploring different ways of heating their homes with the hope of saving their hard-earned money. In this article, we will help to give a bit more information regarding what’s available.

Ecoal is somewhat of a new fuel source - when compared with traditional forms of coal, at least. But exactly what is it? And how effective is it?

This article will look into Ecoal, the process of its production, and the benefits it can bring to your household.

What is Ecoal?

As the world aims to move away from traditional forms of coal for several reasons, the interest in Ecoal has become increasingly strong.

Ecoal is a sustainable fuel source that can heat your home effectively and safely. It’s made from crushed olive stones and emits up to 80% less smoke than house coal and 50% less than kiln-dried logs.

Olive stones are leftovers from olive oil production so the components of the Ecoal are naturally occurring and proven to heat homes substantially.

The otherwise discarded olive stones are bonded together and shaped into briquettes so they can be used on our fires.

If you have concerns over the longevity of this type of smokeless fuel, let us reassure you; that this product usually burns longer than traditional house coal or wooden logs so you won’t need to replenish your stock as frequently.

Homefire sells Ecoal as a sensible alternative to house coal. You can explore the range we have here.

Why you should use Ecoal

Local restrictions on how much smoke can be emitted in specific areas of the UK means that anybody within those areas needs to be cautious of their output.

These are called Smoke Control Areas and are designed to drive down pollution levels and eventually phase out house coal.

Traditional house coal and wood that hasn’t been seasoned enough tend to emit a lot of smoke, which would be against the aforementioned legislation.

Ecoal produces around 80% less smoke than house coal, meaning it’s better for the environment as it reduces your carbon footprint. Any bans that come into force won’t apply to Ecoal as it’s considered a smokeless fuel.

Not only this but there are a number of chemicals in house coal that can be harmful for those in the vicinity of the fire. Ecoal is made from natural ingredients so won’t contain anything likely to have a detrimental impact on your health. This can offer great peace of mind for indoor fires.

It’s a versatile product that you can use in several devices, like a multi-fuel stove or a fireplace. You’ll feel the warmth of the Ecoal quickly as it’s a simple task to light and burn for a long time.
