Having recently launched our brand new range of Next Generation Biomass Fuels, we thought we’d provide some additional information on the processes used to develop these products starting with Homefire Torrefied Heat Logs.
Our popular Homefire Torrefied Heat Logs are made from a clean, well established industrial process known as torrefaction which makes it a far superior fuel than traditional firewood. You may not be familiar with the word torrefaction but it involves the thermal treatment (in the absence of oxygen) of biomass at temperatures typically between 200 and 320 °C.
This torrefaction process drives off moisture and impurities from the wood such as Hydrogen and Methane to produce a dry, torrefied product which is stable, brittle and water resistant. The torrefied product is then compressed and extruded into a clean, high quality biofuel log which has much greater energy density and calorific value than the original biomass material.
Torrefied products, such as our Homefire Torrefied Heat Logs, also have water repellent properties. They’re also made from 100% virgin wood so when you buy this eco-friendly product, you’re also being kinder to the environment.
